Great stuff. I would summarize all your tips in just make friends, but choose them wisely.
They should be neither friends with many followers nor friends with just a few followers. It should be a good mix of both.
I think that’s the golden rule of all social networks. Choose your friends wisely.

Very very true. Especially the part of making friends. After all, you just can’t shout into a void.

This is an awesome post, thank you. I think that another thing to consider is that other people are often open to coaching. I started out very spammy with no idea how these sites functioned, and with the help of some of the seasoned guys like Karim and reading Muhammad Saleem’s posts, I learned some of the ropes and am still learning, and now for the first time find myself telling other people not to waste their time bombarding Digg and Stumble with their own blog. My favorite line from the post - “embrace the tools and become a real user”

Truly enlightening post. You’ve highlighted so many issues that many of us intuitively understand though haven’t put into words. This is a post that every blogger and participant in the social media landscape should read. It would save many community participants from frustration when they enter a new community and don’t understand the culture.

Hey great post. I’m just entering the blog world and am fascinated by it and am trying to understand the dos and don’ts so I appreciate the advise about limiting the self promotion.

What a great post! I’m relatively new to this and have done a little bit of hunting around and reading and playing with stuff here and there but haven’T really “dived in”.

So while I’ve heard many of these tips before (no offence), this article really crystalized it for me for some reason or another.

“When the student is ready…” I guess.

Nice stuff.

Thank you,
Leslie
